Back up and restore
Back up your settings, projects and each repository's chat history and runs, and restore them on a new computer.
A workbench backup holds your settings, your projects, and each repository's chat history and runs. Restore it on a new computer, in a new WSL distro, or after a folder has moved: the workbench finds each repository again by its git remote and project details, and asks only when it is not sure.
What a backup holds
| Included | Not included |
|---|---|
| Your settings | Keys, tokens, the secrets vault and anything that looks like a credential |
| Your projects and their repositories | The repositories' code (that lives in git) |
| Each repository's chat history, runs, workbench state and audit log | Data kept on an SSH host or a node, which stays where it is |
| Agents' full transcripts, if you choose |
Back up
Open Settings → Repositories & editors (under Workbench) and find Back up & restore.
- Back up your workbench makes a backup now.
- Automatic backups: Every day, Every week or Off. Made on this computer while the app is open.
- Keep: the last 3, 7, 14 or 30 automatic backups. Backups you make yourself are kept.
- Backups folder: where they go. A synced folder (OneDrive, Dropbox) keeps them off this computer too.
- Include agents' full transcripts: off by default. On, up to 64 MB of the newest transcripts per repository are included.
A copy with your organisation
Signed in to an organisation, turn on Keep a copy with your organisation. It keeps your settings, projects and recent chat history (never keys or tokens), so you can restore after signing in on a new computer.
Restore
Open the backup
On the new computer, install AI Workbench, then in Back up & restore choose Restore from a backup… and pick a backup, or From a file…. Signed in to your organisation, you can restore its copy.
Choose what happens to settings
Add the ones this computer does not have, Replace this computer's settings, or Leave settings as they are.
Match each repository
For each repository the workbench proposes a folder it found. Choose Use this folder, Change it, or Skip.
Restore
Choose Restore (the button says how many repositories, for example Restore 3 repositories). The workbench says Your workbench is restored, and each repository opens with its chat history and runs.
Secrets are never in a backup: sign your accounts and agent tools in again on the new computer.
When a repository moves on the same computer
You do not need a backup for that. If a repository's folder moves, use Locate… in Projects; if its WSL distro was replaced, use Find it again. The repository keeps its history. See Projects.
